Job Description
Studio in the Long Beach area is looking for an energetic, personable and detail oriented person to train as a stage manager. The Stage Manager will be responsible for the oversight of all technical aspects of the Show as it relates to the Production. This includes Props, Stage Set, Floor, Rigging, Lighting, Sound, and Wardrobe. Directly supervises the department heads of these departments. In conjunction with the Operations Manager and Unit General Manager, responsible for the advancing of the Show as it relates to the Production including all scheduling for the above departments. Ensures the maintenance of all production elements and equipment to Production Standards as they relate to departments referenced above. Provides overall leadership while developing depth within departments referenced above by collaborating with Human Resources to institute training programs as needed. Assists in the development and monitoring of the Units budgetary constraints as they relate to the departments reporting to the Stage Manager.

As a stage manager you will handle the following duties:

Open or close the studio as needed
Provide equipment to clients as needed
Explain to the client how the stage works and assist when necessary
Monitor the use of the stage and equipment
Maintain reports and forms as directed by management
Clean up the stage after job is completed
Maintain, inventory and store studio equipment

Job Requirements:

Related experience in stage managing preferred
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routing reports and correspondence.
Ability to calculate figures, proportions and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret diverse instructions furnished in a variety of forms.
Valid driver’s license (commercial license is preferred.)
Experience working and supervising in a union environment.
Understanding of physics and load bearing components.
Mechanical skills and aptitudes involving winches, hoists, pulleys, blocks and tackles.
Knowledge of carpentry and metal working.
Ability to work with a variety of Macintosh and PC computer programs including internet communications.
