I'm looking for someone to give me work-in-progress notes on a pair of screenplays I'm writing. About me: I'm a skilled but unprofessional writer. My last script, which I wrote 10+ years ago, received several 8's on the Blacklist website and two option offers, both of which I turned down because-- I'm a better director than writer. I've directed a couple dozen commercials with budgets ranging from 200k-1m. The prospect of selling a script for a meager fee is not enticing, so I've been trying to write something inexpensive that I can (perhaps) self-finance. So far, the process has been going well, but writing is a lonely endeavor and I'm at a point where I could use some semi-regular feedback to keep me moving forward productively. About you: You should have strong opinions about story, tone, and character and be able to support those opinions confidently using examples from past films. I'd love it if you're an aspiring producer. Partially because producers give the best notes and partially because it's not out of the realm of possibility that you could produce one of these films if you're preternaturally talented, Lastly, it would be amazing if you know when a script is done. I have a tendency to tinker until the moment something is due. This is a problem when writing a spec because specs are never "due". Sometimes I need a firm voice to tell me when it's time to put the proverbial pencil down. The money: $20/hr for approximately 1-2 hours of work per week. Yes, I know it's too little. Yes, I know that it's hardly worth the investment of time. But it's something. And my hope is that it's an amount that will keep you motivated and me solvent until the venture becomes profitable for both of us. When I get hired to direct commercials, I can book you to work on those for a much higher rate. If you think you'd be a good fit, please write me and explain why. I'm curious about your background, the sorts of films and directors you like, what you see yourself doing in five or ten years. If I think you'd be a good fit, I'll send you a sample of my work and you can decide whether it's an opportunity worth pursuing. Please don't use AI. Your brain and heart are better tools. This can be fully remote, but I also don't mind meeting once in a while if you're in NYC.
