I have an older Bogen 3021 tripod by Manfrotto that has seen better days. One of the clamps on the leg extensions broke off partially, so you need a good grip or strong fingers to tighten and loosen it. However, it is very sturdy and it goes up quite high. The Velbon fluid head has very smooth movements both vertically and horizontally. If you don't care too much for looks and want a really sturdy tripod, this one would be right for you.
