CASTING CALL — SHORT FILM / MUSIC FILM Title: TBA Format: Short Film / Music Film Shoot Length: 1 day Location: [TBD] Compensation: Small honorarium + meals + credit PROJECT DESCRIPTION We are casting three Black women to portray one life lived across time in a poetic, emotionally grounded short film set to an original 7-minute song written by a Black woman. This is a non-verbal, performance-driven piece focused on presence, stillness, and subtle physical expression. There is no traditional dialogue and no theatrical performance style. The film will be submitted to festivals and curated screenings, and will provide valuable on-screen credit and festival exposure. ROLES BEFORE THE FILM BEGINS MAN STANDING AT DOOR (Any Gender: Male) Age: 25–50 A presence in the opening shot — still, grounded, and simply present at a doorway as the film begins. No dialogue or movement required beyond natural presence. WOMAN STANDING AT DOOR (Any Gender: Female) Age: 25–50 With the man at the doorway before the film starts: natural, calm, and comfortable holding space on camera without acting or speaking. (These roles are brief but important: performers should be comfortable being filmed in a subtle, realist context.) TOMORROW (Age 18–22) Open, curious, grounded. Comfortable being present on camera without performing. Movement or dance experience a plus. TODAY (Age 38–45) Centered, emotionally regulated, quietly strong. Able to convey inner life with minimal gesture. YESTERDAY (Age 58–68) Calm, embodied, emotionally available. Comfortable in stillness and silence. Performers should share believable resemblance or energetic continuity. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR • Natural presence (not theatrical) • Comfort with silence and subtlety • Emotional honesty without over-expression • Collaborative, respectful creative approach COMPENSATION & OPPORTUNITY This project is independently funded with a very small budget and does not offer standard industry rates. Instead, we provide: ✔ A small honorarium for your time ✔ Meals on set ✔ Professional working conditions ✔ On-screen credit + festival submission support ✔ A chance to work on a creative, expressive piece with growth potential We want this to be a rewarding experience creatively and professionally. If you are primarily seeking a traditional day rate, this may not be the best fit — but if you are excited by the project, your work will be showcased in festivals, screenings, and industry circles. WARDROBE & HAIR Performers will be asked to bring two neutral, natural-fabric outfits. Hair should be in a natural, age-appropriate style. Specific guidance after casting. SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS Please submit: 1 A recent headshot or natural photo 2 Your age 3 A short note (3–5 sentences) answering one of the following: ◦ How do you relate to the idea of time in your own life? ◦ What does "becoming" mean to you? No monologues or reels required. ADDITIONAL NOTE This project values care, clarity, and respect — both on screen and on set. We welcome performers of all backgrounds within the age ranges listed.
