We're looking for two roles to join our independent feature film team. DP and Producer. These are two separate people, not one. Filming is in LA, end of April and beginning of May. It's a Surrealistic film. A dark comedy satirizing the socio-political moment. It will be very experimental. And very weird. Main story: a cult in LA kidnaps and brainwashes someone into becoming a political assassin. We want the pacing and energy of TikTok mixed with the low key cinematic lighting of European festival films. Influences include David Lynch, Wong Kar Wai, Conner O'Malley, Buffalo 66. Etc. The director wants to work with people who are easy to work with. We want flexibility. It's an Experimental film so we want to experiment. There is a lot of room for creative collaboration but it must be collaborative and not combative, always supporting the director's vision. Role of cinematographer: Create beautiful visuals based on the scene ideas. We have lots of film gear but always welcome more. We want to do more with less gear. And a small crew of less than ten (in total, not just in camera/lighting department). We want you to feel supported but at the same time we need someone confident that they can consistently deliver professional and artistic images even on a very tight budget with limited crew and tools. We want to take our time but there will always logistical difficulties that will force us to work quickly and hopefully efficiently. The DP will be the head of lighting as well as camera department, and we want them to be very hands on. Small crew. The assistants may not have as much professional experience. We need a rock star, team player, who loves getting down and dirty and making movies. The key word creatively is: cool. We want the movie to be cool. Role of producer: We are looking for a producer who can help in all things logistical and Filmmaking. Solve problems. Support the director. Make it happen. But most of all make the directors vision come to life. This is a many hats role that could involve everything from getting/confirming locations to getting last minute props, helping with scheduling and assembling cast and crew for each shoot. Etc. We basically just need more help making this movie. Proactive problem solver. No fighting, only positive vibes. Anyway there's obviously so much to say and this film is rushing into production. It will be exciting and creatively stimulating and we hope to play major festivals and reach internet virality with this topical and out of the box movie. We don't want to shoot two weeks back to back days. Instead we want to spread the shoot over four weeks but take a few days off in between shoots to edit and plan. Probably we will shoot for 2-4 days, then take a few days off, and so on. The total number of days for the project should be 14. Pay is negotiable but this is a micro budget project paid for by the filmmaker, so rates will be micro budget. Can discuss rates and scheduling after acquainting ourselves. Please send reels or a brief message about your experience.
