On Art Projects is seeking a Fall 2026 Editing / Post-Production Intern to join the team of The Memory Loophole, a feature documentary currently in production and post-production. Directed by artist and filmmaker Viviane Silvera, The Memory Loophole follows writer Victoria as she reconstructs the life of her father, who died when she was a child. Combining documentary footage, archival material, hand-painted imagery, projection, and live action, the film explores memory, grief, imagination, and how we construct a story from the fragments that remain. We are looking for a strong, visually minded editor who wants substantial hands-on experience working on a feature documentary. This is not an observational internship or a general production-assistant position. You will work directly with the director to build and refine sequences and help develop the film's visual language. A distinctive part of the internship will involve learning our established workflow for bringing hand-painted images into motion and integrating them with live action, archival footage, sound, and music. Previous animation experience is not required — we will teach you the process. What You'll Do Edit and assemble documentary sequences in Adobe Premiere Pro Work directly with the director to build and revise scenes Learn our workflow for bringing paintings and painted frames into motion Integrate paintings with live action, archival footage, projections, sound, and music Build selects and organize footage Experiment with pacing, visual transitions, image, and sound Create rough assemblies from scripts, existing edits, and director notes Incorporate editorial feedback and create revised cuts Help prepare sequences for trailers, work-in-progress screenings, and presentations Maintain organized project files, media, and versions Because of the film's unusual visual approach, this internship is particularly suited to someone interested in the intersection of documentary, fine art, experimental film, and visual storytelling. Who We're Looking For Applicants should: Have solid working proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro Have previous editing experience through coursework, student films, internships, independent projects, or professional work Have strong visual and storytelling instincts Be curious about unconventional approaches to documentary filmmaking Be comfortable learning a straightforward workflow for bringing paintings into motion Be comfortable receiving detailed editorial notes and trying different versions of a sequence Be organized with media and project files Be able to work independently and meet agreed-upon deadlines Be reliable and consistent about communication and scheduling Be based in the NYC area and able to work periodically in our Long Island City studio After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, sound editing, archival, or animation experience is welcome but not required. Schedule Fall 2026 Approximately 10–15 hours per week Hybrid: Long Island City studio + remote editing We are looking for someone who can commit for the semester and establish a consistent weekly schedule. College Credit & Film Credit This is an unpaid internship for college credit. We are happy to work with your college or university to complete required internship documentation. The intern will also receive screen credit as a member of the film's crew, commensurate with their contribution, on the completed feature documentary. The Memory Loophole is being developed for festival, theatrical, and broadcast distribution. This is an opportunity to do substantive creative work on a professional documentary in active post-production, learn an unusual painting-to-motion filmmaking process, and earn a feature-documentary crew credit. About the Director Viviane Silvera is an artist and filmmaker whose work combines painting, animation, documentary, and neuroscience. Her film SEE MEMORY, created using approximately 30,000 hand-painted frames, aired on PBS and received three 2026 Emmy nominations. Her films and installations have been presented by museums, universities, medical institutions, and arts organizations nationally.
