I'm looking for an editor to create a rough assembly / first-pass cut of an independent narrative feature I recently shot in Los Angeles. The Night We Borrowed is an intimate, performance-driven two-actors, set over the course of one night in Los Angeles. The film was shot primarily on location in Koreatown and Downtown LA over seven shooting days. The finished film is anticipated to run approximately 50–60 minutes and consists of roughly 40 scenes, most of them built around longer conversational takes and walk-and-talk sequences with two principal actors. We have approximately 850 GB of camera-original footage, plus separately recorded production sound. What I'm looking for At this stage, I am not looking for a polished final edit. I need an editor who can : Organize and sync the camera footage and production sound Build a complete rough assembly of the film based on the screenplay and shooting material Make basic editorial choices where multiple takes/coverage exist Give me a watchable beginning-to-end version so I can evaluate the film's structure, performances, pacing and approximate runtime Provide a project/timeline that can continue into the next stage of editing I am the writer/director and will provide the screenplay, footage, production audio and any necessary notes. I expect to be involved, but I'm specifically looking for someone who can take ownership of assembling the material rather than requiring me to sit beside them for every edit. This could be a good fit for an emerging narrative editor, recent film-school graduate, assistant editor looking to move into features, or experienced editor interested in a contained independent project. Narrative storytelling instincts matter more to me than a long résumé. Budget: approximately $750 for this initial assembly stage, depending on experience, workflow and the amount of work involved. If the collaboration is a strong fit, there is the opportunity to continue together through subsequent cuts of the film. Please send a brief introduction, your editing setup/software, relevant narrative samples or reel, and an estimate of how you would approach the job. Los Angeles-based strongly preferred but remote is possible with the right workflow.
