Title: ERNIE'S REALLY REAGAN CHRISTMAS Genre: Family holiday true story Running Time: 90 minutes Writers: Julian Phillips and Carol Eastman Availability: On request Budget: $1-3 million Log Line: A heart-warming true story from beloved US President Ronald Reagan's 2nd term celebration in 1988. When a group of California middle school kids and their social studies teacher find a unique and unusual way to send a special gift to Washington DC for the celebration, a panoramic Americana rich journey from coast to coast unfolds. Synopsis: "You mean it's really Ronald Reagan? The President of the United States? Really?" Twenty kids in Ms. Butterfield's social studies class at a small-town California middle school want to know if it's true. The year is 1987 and US President Reagan is set for his 2nd term with a big celebration in DC the following January. What a great way for the kids to learn about civics and US government. No cell phones, no GPS, no Internet, and no home computers. And no Ronald Reagan either because he appears nowhere in this true story account. From successful husband and wife screen writing team Juian Phillips and Carol Eastman this one-of-a-kind true story was taken from newspaper clippings. The school has a mascot known as "Ernie the Eagle". Ernie is a 4 ft tall plywood cutout of a clever-looking eagle character which happens to have one of his wings shaped like a hitchhiker's thumb. Green in color and fitted with a backpack filled with self-addressed stamped post cards and a stand that allows him to pose erect by the side of the road. What's the plan? Find out as Ernie hitches a ride with a trucker, an evangelist and his family, a hippie couple in a van on their way to big concert, and other colorful people and situations for the 3000-mile journey. But he's not really alone because the kids and his teacher carefully track his progress. That Christmas just before the DC celebration Ms. Butterfield announces that she is getting married soon with a big Christmas wedding and the kids are invited. On her way to a California mountain resort for a bridal shower, her car slides off the road into the ice-cold waters of a deep mountain stream gushing fast with melting snow. There beneath 10 ft. of water, her car upside down and moving with the powerful stream, a park ranger courageously dives in after her and pulls her to safety. Half drowned, terrified, but alive. Common enough for fans of famous leaders like Reagan to send small gifts and tokens in his honor for the big inaugural celebration early in January 1988, Ernie is just another of these gifts. The eagle has landed and the kids can watch the DC celebration on TV. Reagan may never know about their special gift and is seen only in news footage, from a distance, or from behind. But the kids know and that's all that matters. Yes its really Reagan. JP all rights reserved 2025. Also marketing the Christmas Dummies 94 pages, ready to shoot mid budget, pitch deck available.
