Please read entire ad and only apply if you meet the qualifications. Thank you. Established Director/Editor needs a final pass/last looks colorist for retro-themed (really fun, Roger Corman-style) horror/sci-fi feature. Most of the heavy lifting has been done but looking for an experienced colorist with great system & broadcast monitors to complete robust, streamer/broadcast-safe delivery. Film is a rerelease of a 25-year old cult classic with a mix of A-list and cult classic actors. Film was shot in Panavision Super16. The negatives have been re-telecined, dirt & noise removed, and 95% of shot-to-shot & scene-matching color correction is finished. The priority here is (obviously) tweaking the scenes so everything looks it best, but also making sure our PR4X4 file hasn't shifted colorspace when exported to Quicktime and fixing whatever has. Film was edited in DaVinci Resolve on a Mac, so we need to avoid (or correct) any of the Rec 709-709a problems (weird colorspace, washouts) that are so common to this workflow. We have delivered films with this setup before without issue but are having inconsistent results this time around, even with calibrated monitors. So, we are looking for a colorist who has Resolve (for final export/delivery file if needed, and regardless of what you use for color) and has previous experience with this exact issue. You'll be getting the fully edited textless (alpha titles) 80m trt, 1080 PR4x4 file to work with. Director must be present for the work, but he is a member of the Editors Guild so you won't be fielding a bunch of stupid questions. We don't have a lot of time but also shouldn't need a lot of time, so someone who works smartly/quickly is a must. This is very straightforward with very few special effects and no CGI. The full assignment includes: work with Director to create the best possible looking streamer-spec or broadcast parameter PR422 HQ delivery file and, if needed, export the delivery master from a Resolve timeline w/CC & 8 channel mix, either at the end of the work of shortly thereafter. Within two weeks of the feature there will be two trailers to do last looks and possible corrections on as well. But if Colorist can help Director tweak the settings on the original editing system to ensure future color-accurate delivery, export and trailers may not need to be done on Colorist's system. Flat-rate pay of $1500 for color correction done to Director's satisfaction (not unreasonably withheld, guessing two days' work), with a $250 rider to cover delivery and trailer polish if needed, so $1750 total pay, plus credit. Local LA County only. Please submit resume, expertise specific to this post, any questions, and links to work. Thank you! This will be a fast, fun experience and a really solid feature film credit.
