I'm looking for a Special Effects Makeup Artist / Creature Makeup Artist for an independent horror short film shooting in the Los Angeles area. The film features a humanoid creature that is primarily hidden in darkness and revealed through brief flashes of light. I'm looking for someone who can help bring the creature to life practically and create something unsettling without making it feel overly elaborate or theatrical. THE CREATURE The creature will have a humanoid appearance with: • Gray / dark-gray skin • An unnatural, unsettling facial appearance • Subtle texture and detail that will hold up during close shots • A disturbing mouth/teeth appearance for a final reveal • A look that works especially well in darkness and under brief flashes of light I'm aiming for something that feels grounded, disturbing and believable, rather than a traditional monster or heavily stylized creature. The creature will be played by an actor, so I'm looking for someone comfortable working with prosthetics, creature makeup, skin texturing, teeth/mouth effects, or similar practical effects. I'm also open to your creative input on how we can achieve the strongest look practically within an independent short-film budget.
