Now Casting: NEWS-JOKE-PANELISTS and SKETCH-CHARACTER-ACTORS for a new late-night themed live show at Flappers on Nov 16. Hosted by Geoff Plitt, producer of popular alt-comedy showcases JETPACK and TOTALLY at Bar Lubitsch THE BIG BEAUTIFUL SHOW is a brand-new comedy-and-news live late-night show like you've never seen before. Our panel of comedians tackle the headlines of the week with panel, characters, standup, and jokes so sharp they should come with a warning label. It's late-night meets comedy club showcase— fresh, bold, and unforgettable— and the only thing missing is you! WHERE: Flappers (Burbank) Yoo-Hoo room WHEN: 7:30pm on Sunday, Nov 16. We are looking for PANELISTS for the show. Think "After Midnight" or "Have I Got News for You". You'll receive a list of news headlines 48 hours before the show, and you have 1-2 days to write your punchlines. There will be a Zoom call 1 day before the show (or day of show) to hear your jokes out-loud with the other panelists listening, so you can find which jokes are strongest, and receive tags from other panelists You will be onstage for 1 HOUR, during which there will be panel segments you are active in, and 5-10 minute breaks while the host interviews a character-- but you stay onstage the whole time. During panel segments, the host will mention news headlines, and throw to you ("Jane, what do you think of that one?") for you to deliver your 20-40 second punchline for that topic. We are also looking for SKETCH CHARACTERS (Think "SNL Weekend Update" when the news anchor interviews a character about a news topic) Before the show, submit a pitch (video, audio, script, or Curb-style outline) of a character you'd like to bring to the show. At the show, the host will introduce you, you'll come onstage, and he'll interview your character for 5-10 minutes about a single news topic of your choice. YOU will provide the host's lines/questions in script form. Your side can be scripted or ad-libbed (if ad-libbed, please write a curb-style outline for your parts, and you still need to script the hosts questions so he knows what to ask you). Like SNL Weekend Update, you can play a sketch character unlike yourself, or just play yourself with an interesting perspective. You can even pretend to be on-location somewhere, with your finger-in-your-ear as if reporting from a location. Like any good sketch piece, there should be a GAME within your character that gets heightened until the end of the interview. We'll do a 1-on-1 Zoom in the final week before the show to rehearse and provide feedback on your character piece. Unless you're also doing Panel (see above), you'll only be onstage for the 5-10 minutes of your character. SUBMIT by sending a video, audio, or written samples of your news-based jokes, or character you'd like to do. https://x.com/bigbeautifulshw/status/1984849726320361618 https://www.instagram.com/p/DQiqTH3ERXC/
